Online journalism is less credible as compared to mainstream media.

Nowadays there a lot of medium that has been used in delivering news to public. As we all know, mainstream media such as TV, radio and newspaper has been conquered this kind of media for a long time ago. Mainstream media plays very important roles in order to spread information to public. It can reach to large audience in a fast way and at the same it can influence audience indirectly. Everything that has been exposed by mainstream media can influenced public and also can change public perception towards certain issues.

In this modern era, everything is in our hand. The existence of internet has brings a lot of change in spreading news towards public. By clicking mouse on the laptop, we could find anything in this world. By using internet also, the online journalism has been created. Many information and news we can find in online journalism. The scope of online journalism is really huge until we also can find news around the world. Not just only in the certain area.

Before we go too far, let me explain little bit what is online journalism. Online journalism refers to news content produced and/or distributed via the Internet, particularly material created by journalists who work for mainstream market driven news organizations. While blogs and other emerging forms of online news communication are widely acknowledged as significantly influencing mainstream news content both on and offline, they are considered here a distinct phenomenon and treated under the category of alternative media. it also can be defined as a  art of making up a story with something that sounds like a premise but isn’t, and then spending the entire time writing about how your unfounded premise would play out, if it had any basis, delivered via the world wide web.

The difference between this two media is on the mainstream media, they have their own style and own channel in delivering news to public while in online journalism, it only require blog and everybody can write. Besides that, on mainstream media they have gatekeeper that will monitor them in spread information to public while online journalism does not have it. The style also difference because in mainstream media, their more highlights on formality. It must follow the guideline and just not simply added what they want in the news. In online journalism, there are not these things that the writer must follow. The writer can freely write what they want without thinking the guidelines because there are no guidelines in reporting news through online journalism.

What are we going to discuss are why online journalism less credible compared to mainstream media. This is because first, the information they write online is from unreliable and sources that cannot be trusted. As I said before, everyone can be a writer for online journalism and everything that they write cannot be trust because we don’t know where they get news on certain issues.

Other than that, the online journalism less credible compared to mainstream media because there are no ethics in writing about any issues especially on blogs. Bloggers can write anything and everything they want no matter if the word they are using is harsh. Mainstream media have gatekeepers who will control and filter whatever news before disseminating it to the audiences. This is crucial to maintain the peaceful and harmony in a country.

In a nutshell, mainstream media have their own audience and it reaches out everyone around the world. The news deliver by mainstream media are more precise compared to online journalism and that’s why mainstream media are more credible. As smart users, we need to choose the right media to get information. This is important because we don’t want to be influenced with this false news that could make chaos to our country.
